All aboard for a quick trip to Bronson, Mo.; event is now open to all

Need a little getaway from your weekly routine? There are 27 spots left for The Branson Show Extravaganza trip sponsored by the Cheyenne County Community Center in conjunction with Diamond Tours, Inc.

Though some might think adventure is for younger generations this trip is in place to give senior citizens a worthwhile trip and a chance to get out of town.

Although the trip was created for the seniors of Sidney; however, that does not mean it’s closed to the rest of the community, senior community director at the Cheyenne County Community Center Scott Borcher said.

“It’s geared toward the senior community but it is available to anybody that wants to go. A few signed up so far aren’t seniors,” he said.

Borcher said that when he started as the senior community director he wanted to design something like a trip to get seniors out and about.

“I wanted to promote activities like this that we could do with our seniors,” Borcher said. “This is our way to develop a more senior center feel here at the community center, because we really have never had a senior center.”

Borcher said that he wants seniors to know that there are activities at the community center for them to get involved in and the center is not only for the younger generations.

A lot of daytime activities are held at the center for seniors, he said.

“We have a senior exercise class everyday at 9 a.m. and then we have congregate meals every day at 11 or 11:30,” Borcher said. “We also have a group that comes in and plays cards every day except for Mondays and Fridays.”

The community center has close to 200 senior members and welcomes more to participate, Borcher said.

The trip will last seven days, with the tour bus leaving for Branson, Mo. at 8 a.m. on May 19 from the community center, he said.

The maximum limit for the bus is 50 people but 40 people must attend to make the trip possible; 23 have already signed up.

To sign up for the trip interested travel-goers can contact Scott Borcher at 308-254-7000. A $75 deposit is needed by Jan. 18 for those that sign up and the total cost of the trip per person is $569. The rest of the balance is due Mar. 18.

“It’s pretty much an all-inclusive trip other than a few meals,” Borcher said.

Included in the trip package are transportation costs, lodging, 10 meals and seven Branson shows, he said.
