Council vacancy open to all registered voters

Following Tuesday night’s announcement that Councilman Aaron Barnes will be resigning from the Sidney City Council on Feb. 20, the Sidney City Council chose to open up the vacancy to any registered voter living in the Sidney City limits. A vacancy will be declared following acceptance of the resignation at the Feb. 20 city council meeting.

The Council asked that a letter of interest along with a resume explaining the qualifications of prospective candidates be sent or brought to the City Manager’s office. Interested applicants should send the written letter and resume to City Manager, City of Sidney, P.O. Box 79, Sidney, NE 69162 or interested citizens can drop off the information at the City Manager’s office at 1115 13th Avenue.

Deadline for interested candidates will be Tuesday, March 5 at 5 p.m. The City Council will first consider appointment to the position at their March 12, 2013 regular city council meeting. All candidates applying will be brought to the City Council on an eligibility list.

The vacant position will fill the 21 month unexpired term from time of appointment until the November 2014 General Election.
