Gurley-Dalton Garden Club Elect New Officers

The Gurley Dalton Garden Club met on March 5th, 2013, with President Ann Rushman presiding. She reported that the NE State Garden Clubs annual meeting will be held in North Platte on Aril 19th through the 21st. and reminded members that the April 2nd meeting will be a field trip and workshop held at the TLC Garden Center in Scottsbluff.

Election of officers was held and Ardis Smith presented a slate of nominated members as follows – Janet Waite, Treasurer; Sue Tvrs, Secretary; Rilla Draper, Vice President; and Susan Young, President. These new officers were unanimously approved upon and they will begin their duties on June 1st.

Tvrs gave a comprehensive lesson on flowering shrubs. The best planting time for shrubs is late summer or early fall and to plant as deep as they were in the container. Planting in the fall give the shrubs a good chance to establish roots before the cold winter arrives. Draper had a short report about the American Robin since many are being seen in the area and Rushman gave some gardening techniques during a drought.
