Local pool player will advance to APA National Championships

McCook – Dean Sterling from Sidney will travel to Las Vegas in April for the American Poolplayers Association (APA) 8-Ball Classic National Singles Championship after winning the APA Singles Regional tournament held over the weekend at Kelley Creek Pub in McCook.

Jon Howton from Dix finished second in the tournament and collected a cash prize for his efforts.

Seventy players from all over Western Nebraska qualified for the regional event which sent the top six players to the National Championships.

Each player competed with others in their own skill level tier so players of all abilities had the opportunity to advance to the National Championships.

At the National Championships, players continue to compete with others in their own skill level tier and a National Champion is crowned in each skill level tier.

When in Vegas, players will compete for a share of over $400,000 in cash and prizes and will receive a generous travel allowance, guaranteed National Qualifier prize money, a commemorative jacket and complimentary lodging at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, site of the APA National Championships.
