'Yearbook Reflections' takes the stage this weekend

Sidney High School students were all “in character” as they held dress rehearsal for their upcoming performance of “Yearbook Reflections.”

The performances will be Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6, at 7 p.m. at the Sidney High School Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is $8 for adults and for seniors 65 and older the cost is $4.

The two-act play will run approximately 90 minutes.

“Yearbook Reflections” was written by Denver Playwright Steven Fendrich, with music and lyrics by Scott Deturk, a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado.

As the title suggests, the plot is set in a high school. “Yearbook Reflections” is a sensitive, upbeat musical about the willpower, compassion and humor that you find in every school. Susan and Beth ask Jack and Eric to help move the boxes of hot-off-the-press yearbooks that have just arrived at their school. Between loads, they stop and flip through the pages of time, reflecting back on the year’s highlights.

David Mead of the Sidney High School music department directs the production. Mead says that the musical has elements of comedy and drama, and that it also has its sad moments. Mead added that the teens are “basically playing themselves.”

Assistant directors are Lauren Gull and Darby Young. Tyler Baily and LeeAnn Ogle are the lighting technicians.

The cast for Friday’s and Saturday’s performances is: Lauren Gull; Andrew Phelps; Casey Baldwin; Austin Jacobsen; Madeline Mead; Darby Young; Anna Turner; Kayla Burt; Kali Robb; Madison Verhulst; LaNaya Gutierrez; Tausha Holst; Amy Rowan; Kylie Ellwanger; Mitchel Renkert; Ben Goble; Bailee Christie; Megan Neal and Abby Heller.

Mead encourages everyone to “come out and support our Sidney High School students.”
