Sidney's Tucker Wintholz pins Luke Ferguson of Gothernburg in a 285 match.
The Red Raiders wrestling team opened the season on a high note on Friday as they toppled Gothenburg on the road in a dual meet 46-32. Sidney then traveled to Cozad on Saturday, where they finished seventh in a 13-team meet.
The match winners for Sidney at Gothenburg inlcuded Kane Taylor (195 lbs.), Tucker Wintholz (285), Ben Goble (120), Austin Storbeck (126), Zach Borges (138), Michael Muggli (145), Lukias Higer (152) and Ryan Nieto (160).
Taylor, Wintholz, Muggli and Higer all won on pins. Borges won by a major decision 11-2.
Muggli was the highest individual placer at Cozad as he finished first at 145 lbs. Wintholz finished second in the 285 lbs. class. The other Raiders to place inlcuded Higer (5th at 152), Goble (6th at 113) and Ryan Wooley (6th at 160).
Though he did not place, Borges also gained points for the Raiders.
Among the junior varsity grapplers, Dominic Beyer was first in the 285 lbs. weight class and Jack Fedderson second at 113.
Sidney's wrestlers next take to the mat at Gordon-Rushville on Saturday.
