Potter woman identified in attempted bank robbery

The suspect who allegedly attempted to rob a Sidney bank on Friday morning was reported to be a 30-year-old Potter woman.

Law enforcement authorities are releasing little detailed information on the incident, but Janetta Lenstrom was reportedly identified as the person taken into protective custody on Friday for the attempted armed robbery of Sidney Federal Savings & Loan, across from the courthouse in downtown Sidney. At least until recently she was employed by Points West Community Bank.

According to reports, Lenstrom was taken to a hospital for treatment. Both the facility and type of treatment were not disclosed, though it is believed that no one was injured or wounded during the event.

The incident took place at approximately 9:20 on Friday morning. Sidney police and deputies from the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office responded. The suspect managed to elude authorities for two hours before they made the arrest.

During that span, Sidney Public Schools were placed under lock down conditions and police issued notices regarding a grey Chevrolet Lumina.

There was no direct threat to the schools or, so far as is known, to other residents. Authorities have not released information as to money stolen in the attempted robbery.

Lenstrom has been active in the Potter community.

Charges for the attempted robbery will be made by federal attorneys in Omaha.
