Minatare ended their three-game losing streak on Friday night with a 61-54 win over Warriors. It was the first time this season the District D2 11 rivals had met.

The Warriors bounced back the following night when they overpowered Crawford, 63-38, in Dalton.

After their weekend of action the Warriors record stands at 11-4. Minatare’s weekend, which included a loss to Potter-Dix, settled in at 10-4. Crawford is now 5-9.

In Friday’s game at Minatare the Warriors held a narrow lead at 40-39 before the Inidans heated up with a devastating 22-point fourth quarter.

Dylan Brenner was the leading scorer for Leyton against Minatare with 17 points while Brennen Cruise and Cody McKay scored 12 and 10, respectively. Alex W. Frerichs dropped in 7.

McKay was tops on the boards with 8 rebounds. Cruise had 4 assists.

Cruise was the Warriors scoring leader against Crawford with 14 points while Brenner backed him up with a dozen. Seth Schuessler added 9 points and Josh Reimers 8.

Brenner and Cruise pulled down 6 rebounds apiece to lead Leyton. Cruise again recorded 4 assists.

The Warriors are back at it on Tuesday when they host Sedgwick County. The junior varsity girls will kick the action off at 4 p.m.

Late surge gives Storm win on road

Creek Valley dominated the fourth quarter to pull out a 49-45 win over the Garden County Eagles in Oshkosh on Friday night.

“The kids played great defense tonight,” said the Storm’s head coach Roger Behrends. “That is the most aggressive the kids have been. Its nice to see us finish the game strong.”

The Godfrey brothers led the way, with Brett as the high scorer. He tacked up 22. Lane backed him up 18, to account for 40 of the Storm’s 49 points.

An outstanding night from the free-throw line by the Godfrey’s helped the cause. Lane hit all nine of his attempts while Brett drained all but one on a night when he was handed six offerings from the stripe.

Brett Godfrey led the team in rebounds with 13 while Wyatt McMillen had 10 and Lane Godfrey 9.

The Godfrey’s each had a pair of steals.

Creek Valley takes to the floor again on Friday night when they travel to Dalton for a date with the Warriors.

Potter-Dix falls on road, wins at home

Potter-Dix split a pair of games over the weekend. On Friday the Coyotes had to make due without Bryant Knigge and Trevor Harms and suffered the consequences, registering a 55-49 loss to Banner County (5-10) in Harrisburg.

The Coyotes (8-7) rebounded on Saturday by knocking off Minatare (10-4) for the second time this season. With Knigge back from a school trip to Washington D.C., but Harms still out, the Coyotes toppled the Indians 62-51.

In the Friday loss, Cameron Purcell and Tyler Magninie led the Coyotes with 23 and 20 points respectively.

Purcell and Trace Sharman pulled down 6 rebounds each. Kelsey Rozelle had 5 assists. Purcell and Magninie each added 3 steals to their point totals.

Purcell again led Potter-Dix in scoring with his 19 points on Saturday. Knigge scored 17 in his return while Sharman had 10 and Rozelle 9.

Sharman also had 10 rebounds to lead the team.

The Coyotes will host Burns, Wyo. on Saturday afternoon on Senior Night.

Peetz on three game winning streak

For the first time in four years the Bulldogs have won three straight games.

On the strength of a dominant first half, Peetz topped district rival Pawnee in Grover, Colo. 53-42 on Saturday. Peetz is now 7-5 and have lost only once in district play.

“This game was a stepping stone for us to learn how to close out games,” said the Bulldogs Head Coach Bill Fiscus. “Pawnee is a very young team but they are coached extremely well.”

Josh Fiscus was the high man offensivly for Peetz with 14 points. Tre Lewis added 10 points and Bradey Holtz 9.

Defensively, Cody Wilson had a big game with 11 rebounds to go along with 3 steals. Casey Barrett also had 3 steals.

The ‘Dogs are off until Friday when they travel to Briggsdale for another important district game.

Briggsdale handed Peetz their only 1A North Central loss so far this year when they edged the Bulldogs 55-50 on Jan. 10.
