Creek Valley boys, girls sweep Perkins County

The Storm took an early lead Tuesday night and never looked back, upending Perkins County in Grant, 76-49.

“The kids played a complete game tonight and rebounded the ball really well at both ends,” said Storm Head Coach Roger Behrends. “This is the best we’ve shot all season.”

While the visitors led 33-27 at the half, they really put the hammer down in the third quarter. Creek Valley outdid the Plainsmen 29-13 in the third to put the game out of reach.

The Storm’s offense was led by a balanced attact in which five Creek Valley players finished the game in double digits. Brett Godfrey led the way with 18 points while Dane McConnell (15), Lane Godfrey (14), Colin Brott (14) and Maverick Widdowson (13) piled it on.

Lane Godfrey was strong on the glass with a team high 13 rebounds - 12 of them in the defnesive end. Brott (10), Brett Godfrey (6) and McConnell were also strong rebounders. Lane Godfrey’s production included 5 assists and 3 steals to lead the team in both categories.

South Platte will visit Chappell this Friday and Wallace comes in the following Friday to conclude the Storm’s regular season.

Girls cruise, 67-46

Creek Valley faced little second-half resistance in turning back Perkins County on the road, picking up a 67-46 win Tuesday night.

While the Storm held just a three-point lead at 28-25 after the first half, they turned it on after the break. Creek Valley took control with a 19-7 third quarter and finished with 20-14 final period.

The Storm’s record is now 11-5 with sub districts coming up next week.

Jerry Straber and Summer Mueller helped lead the Storm to victory with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Hannah Schievelbein added 10 more points and Shania Brown 8. Schievelbein’s offensive production was helped by her pulling down 9 offensive rebounds and 15 overall, earning her a double-double.

Brown had 10 boards and Jessie Straber 7.

The abettors were led by Mueller’s 5 assists while Jerry Straber had 3. The Storm had 14 steals as a team led by Mueller’s 4. Four other Storm players had a pair of thefts each: Jerry Straber, Joey Straber, Shievelbein and Brown.

The Storm will host South Platte this Friday with junior varsity girls set to get underway at 3 p.m.
