Local student sets Black Hills track record

Sidney native and Peetz High School graduate Jacob Wilson has made his mark on the Black Hills State University (Spearfish, S.D.) track team.

Since Wilson won the high jump at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference meet last spring he has not lost an event. He won the championship last spring with a with a school record leap of 6-10 1/4 in an outdoor event. In the Yellow Jackets most recent meet on Jan. 26, Wilson also established a new indoor school record. At the Dave Little Alumni Mile Wilson cleared the bar at 6-9 1/2.

In addition to carrying a 3.1 average as a physical education major, Wilson is an active volunteer with several organizations. He is involved with the Cool Kids Club, Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken baseball and has worked with students with special needs from the Northern Hills Training Center.

Wilson also works with the TeamMates Program, where he has gone to the local elementary school as a mentor and friend to local students. Wilson is active in Sidney as well.

He spent last season as a baseball coach with Sidney American Legion Post 17.
