Golfers struggle in advance of districts

The Red Raiders golf team had a rough outing at the Ogallala Invite on Thursday, just four days before the District B-4 Tournament is scheduled to begin.

Sidney finished sixth among the 12 teams competing with a total of 368. McCook won the match with a 313.

Sidney's score was not up the the standards of its past two matches which had been very encouraging.

"I'm extremely disappointed. I really don't get it," said Raiders Head Coach Chuck Christensen. "Hopefully it all turns around by Monday."

Brendon Brown recorded the low score for Sidney with an 89 while Ryan Birner finished one back at 90. The other Raiders scores included Brady Radcliffe (92), Ryan Dvorak (97) and Elliot Jones (98).

Brown had a solid round going before stumbling over the final three holes. He finished bogey-double bogey-triple bogey.

"On the back nine if you don't hit the fairway on that course you're going to be in real trouble," said Christensen. "Our guys weren't hitting the fairway."

The District B-4 Tournament will begin at 9 a.m. CDT at Cozad County Club on Monday. The players will go off the front and back nine with tee times. Birner will start at the first hole at 9 a.m. and Brown will follow two groups later at 9:17. Jones (9:51), Dvorak (9:58) and Radcliffe (10:08) will all begin their rounds on the the 10th tee.

Though none of the Raiders have played the Cozad layout previously, Coach Christensen will take the team on Sunday for a practice round.
