Sidney cross country sweeps Ogallala Invite

The Sidney boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept the Ogallala Invite Thursday afternoon. The boys registered a score of 25, while the girls posted a 30. It’s the second consecutive meet in which both Red Raider teams placed first.

As he did last Friday in McCook, senior Jachob Wiedeburg came in first overall out of 112 male runners with a season-best time of 17:36, finishing 18 seconds ahead of second-place Jaco Henning of Ogallala. Senior Hayden Lieneman came in about a half second behind Henning for third place. For Lieneman, it was his second Top 5 finish of the season.

Senior Brody McKnight slotted in at seventh with a 5K time of 18:19. Sophomore Ryan Aurich finished 14th with an 18:47 run. Junior Jacob Schaub came in 21st overall with a time of 19:25. Sophomore Logan Uhlir crossed the finish line 10 seconds behind Schaub for 22nd place.

In the girls’ race, junior Preslie Allen came in fourth overall out of a field of 81, with a time of 21:34 – her highest finish of the season. Freshman Chantal Riggs, who continues to shine on the varsity tea, finished ninth at 21:46. Junior Erin Lindeman and freshman Charlie Brockhaus, who enjoyed a breakout race in McCook, came in 12th and 13th with times of 22:10 and 22:21 respectively.

Junior Abby Heller finished 15th with a 22:41 showing, while senior Maddie Stafford placed 16th with a time of 22:43.

Sidney will shoot for a third straight sweep when it competes in Kearney on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. CDT.
