Annual 'Taste of Sidney' fundraiser on tap for this week

The Cheyenne County Women’s Chamber will host its 15th annual “Holiday Taste Of Sidney” and First Cupcake Showdown.

The proceeds go to a scholarship fund that will be used to help children play sports at the Cheyenne County Community Center. The event will take place Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the center.

“There’s 25 to 30 businesses that will participate in the event,” said event coordinator Jenny Payton. “It’s a mix of restaurants, churches and home based businesses.”

The event will have a silent auction, food samples and a variety of cupcakes on hand. The silent auction will give attendees the opportunity to bid on a variety of items from local businesses while getting some early holiday shopping done.

Those in attendance will also be judges for the cupcake showdown.

“We’ll have six contestants who are making mini cupcakes,” Payton said. “The first 200 people will get to be the judges of the cupcake showdown. The winner will receive $50 in chamber bucks. It was really something fun and new that we thought we should try.”

The event provides an opportunity for kids to have fun in a family environment while helping children in the community to play sports at the community center, Payton said.

“This is a way for the community to support the kids,” she said. “Because the funds of this event go to the youth activities fund, it’s a great way for the adults in the community to support the kids.”
