BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Potter-Dix girls stay perfect with victory against Leyton

Leyton boys nip Coyotes, 49-45

Anna McLaughlin scored a game-high 13 points and freshman teammate Audrey Juelfs chipped in 11 more to help the undefeated Potter-Dix girls’ basketball team to a 50-30 victory over Leyton on Tuesday night.

McLaughlin also grabbed nine rebounds as did sophomore teammate Alexus Rozelle for the Lady Coyotes, who improved to 5-0.

Leyton, which fell to 2-3, was paced by senior Kaitlyn Berner and junior Natalie Cruise, who contributed nine points apiece. Teammate Shaela Jenkins grabbed six rebounds.

Both teams struggled from the field, shooting just 26 percent apiece. Leyton was 12 for 46 from the field, while Potter-Dix was 18 for 70. The Lady Coyotes were 11 for 24 from the free-throw line, while the Lady Warriors managed just 4 of 13.

The host Lady Coyotes put together a 20-14 halftime lead and then pushed it to 28-19 through three quarters. They outscored Leyton 22-11 in the final quarter to pull away.

Potter-Dix returns to action on Friday night, traveling to Caliche (Colo.). Leyton next plays at Banner County on Friday night.

Leyton 49, Potter-Dix 45

Leyton opened up a 31-20 by the intermission and then hung on for the four-point win on the road.

The Warriors were actually outscored 25-18 in the second half, but still posted the victory to improve to 2-3. Meanwhile, Potter-Dix slipped to 2-3.

Leyton travels to Banner County on Friday night, while the Coyotes head to Caliche (Colo.) for a nonconference battle with the Buffaloes.
