Peetz baseball suffers loss, two injuries

While there were a number of positive signs that came from Peetz High School’s 7-3 road loss to the Community Christian Crusaders (8-1) – Class 1A’s second-ranked team – it might be the two other losses that hurt the most.

While the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0) played well over the first several innings, they lost two starters in the process. Starting left fielder Jordan Nelson learned the sore hand he got from catching was actually broken. He will not return to the lineup for about two weeks.

Additionally, starting second baseman Tre Fehringer learned he has sustained a broken elbow – likely the result of an injury he had in summer ball last year.

“It’s a blow to us for sure,” said Peetz head coach Darrin Fehringer. “We’re going to need a few guys to step up, that’s all.”

Peetz was the first to score with three runs in the top of the first inning. Brian Roelle knocked in Bradey Holtz and Cody Wilson. Holtz opened the game with a walk and Wilson singled. Logan Sircy then drove in Garrett Roelle for a 3-0 lead.

“We played with them for half the game before we made some mistakes that cost us in the long run,” Fehringer said. “We had a number of things go well though. I was pleased that we were able to hit the ball against such a strong team. It was nice to see us be more disciplined at the plate.”

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on Haxtun at home at 2 p.m.
