Sidney runners shine at UNK Invite

Girls win team title; boys finish in second

The Sidney High School boys' and girls' cross country teams turned in strong performaces in the Class C division at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Invite on Monday.

The Lady Raiders finished first among 17 teams, while the boys' runners captured second in a 22-team field.

The girls topped runner-up Adams Central by four points in the team standings.

Erin Lindeman was Sidney's top finisher in the girls' 3.1-mile race, covering the course in 21 minutes, 59 seconds. The Raiders' other top finishers were Jami Flores (13th overall), Chantal Riggs (14th) and Charlie Brockhaus (25th).

For the boys, Sidney's top-four finishers all crossed the finish line within four seconds of each other.

Brenner Keane led the way in 16th with a time of 18:34 over the 3.1 miles, followed by Mitch Porter, Ryan Aurich and Jacob Schaub.

The tean finished 12 points behind winner Milford.

Sidney is back in action on Saturday at 9 a.m. for the conference meet at the Five Rocks Amphitheater in Gering.
