Sidney Singers take first in division at Old West Choir Fest

Sidney High School’s Sidney Singers had a strong showing at the Old West Choir Fest earlier this month in Scottsbluff.

The Sidney Singers took first place in their division and received a gold rating for their afternoon performance, qualifying them for the “Best of the Fest” portion where they received fourth behind three schools from Aurora, Colo.

The Old West Choir Fest is a choir competition that originated 32 years ago. The event is an educational day for choirs to grow as performing ensembles.

According to Sidney High’s choir director David Mead, the event is open to all classes of high schools in the Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado area.

The choir fest also included a “Best of the Fest” competition, which is an invitational of the highest scoring groups from the afternoon event.

Mead said there were 23 different show choirs at this year’s event including five from Aurora, Colo., two from Riverton, Wyo., and 16 from Nebraska. He added that the Sidney Singers performed very well at the event.
