Cruise selected as AP All-State second team libero

Seven local players named as honorable mention by Nebraska sports writers

A total of eight high school volleyball players from Cheyenne and Deuel counties have been named to the 2015 Associated Press Nebraska All-State volleyball teams.

Leyton senior Natalie Cruise, a libero for the Lady Warriors, took the highest honor of the eight after being named second team in Class D1.

During her senior season playing volleyball for the Lady Warriors, Cruise recorded 641 digs, 171 kills, 42 aces and 12 blocks.

Leyton finished the 2015 season with a 29-7 overall record and a 7-1 record in D1-12 competition. The season for the Lady Warriors ended back in November after a 3-2 loss to Dundy County-Stratton in the D1-12 championship game.

Seven other players - hailing from Sidney, Leyton, Potter-Dix and Creek Valley - were selected as honorable mention. Those seven are: Sidney's Annalise Lecher and Emily Mahr; Potter-Dix's Regyn Hicks, Alexus Rozelle, Dawson Sharman and Lanie Thies; Leyton's Kristine Barnett, Taylor Berner and Diedra Waite and Creek Valley's Payje Misegadis and Sami Schmid.

Players selected are voted on by Nebraska sports writers and sportscasters.
