Creek Valley, Potter-Dix suffer narrow defeats

Creek Valley and Potter-Dix each lost close games on Tuesday night, while Leyton also lost at Bridgeport in area boys basketball action.

Haxtun 55, Creek Valley 43

Creek Valley came out with the early lead before Haxtun, Colo., rallied for a 55-43 win on Tuesday.

The Storm (6-5) held a 16-13 first quarter advantage and went up 34-29 at halftime. The Bulldogs (6-2) rallied to outscore the Storm 29-9 in the second half.

Brett Godfrey led Creek Valley offensively with 18 points. He was 7-of-15 from the floor, including 5-of-9 on deuces. Colin Brott added 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor.

Keith Everitt led the team with seven rebounds, while Brott added six. Godfrey had a team-high three steals.

Creek Valley returns to play Thursday with a game at Paxton.

Kimball 67, Potter-Dix 56

Potter-Dix held the early lead before Kimball came back for a 67-56 win over the homestanding Coyotes on Tuesday night.

The Coyotes (3-5) came out with an 11-9 first quarter lead, before the Longhorns (5-5) came back to narrowly lead 29-27 at halftime. Kimball pulled away with a 19-11 third quarter advantage for the win.

Edward Barnes led the Coyotes offensively with 13 points. Cole Christensen added 12 points, while Coby Hicks scored 11 points.

Hicks led the team with nine rebounds, while Barnes grabbed eight. Barnes also dished out a team-high four assists. Noah Nelson led the team with three steals.

The Coyotes are back in action Friday with a home contest against cross-county rival Leyton.

Bridgeport 77, Leyton 31

Brigdeport grabbed the early lead and went on to a 77-31 win Tuesday night over Leyton.

The Bulldogs (9-2) led 17-11 after the first quarter and held a 41-17 advantage at halftime. They outscored the Warriors 36-14 in the second half.

Statistics were not available at press time.

Leyton (4-5) returns to play Friday at cross-county rival Potter-Dix.
