NDOR reports eight traffic fatalities in February

Eight fatalities were reported on state roadways in February, bringing the total to 23 for the year according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR).

According to the data, the eight fatalities occurred in eight crashes, three on non-interstate highways and five on local roads, and seven of the vehicle occupants killed were not using safety belts. One of the fatalities was a motorcyclist.

Six of the reported fatalities occurred in rural locations, with four of the fatal crashes being vehicle overturns. Half of February's fatality count were 24 years old or younger.

Compared to last year, February's total number of fatalities is one-fourth lower than this time last year when there were 12 fatalities reported in Feb. 2015. The cumulative total decreased by nearly one-third compared to this time last year when 34 fatalities were reported by NDOR.
