Giving antiques new homes

The French Door Antique Mall is in its seventh year of business offering a wide variety of vintage and antique décor for home, porch, patio and garden.

Owner Mary Jo Putman said the store is housed in an 3,800 square foot warehouse space which was originally the Coca Cola Bottling company in the 1930s.

"We have an eclectic group of 20 vendors that bring a different take on antique and re-purposed furniture, primitive and rustic décor as well as unique industrial finds," said Putman.

Putman said the shop started in September of 2010 when the French Door first opened in a space at the Jones Center shopping center in Sidney. By 2013, Putman said it was clear that they needed a larger space to expand and to bring in more vendors anxious to sell their wares.

"When I started this business six years ago, I had no Idea that this area produces such talented people and I am so fortunate to have the best of the best right here at the French Door. When you step inside you will be inspired, and quite possibly fall in love with a little treasure that you simply must take home with you," said Putman.

"The French Door has a wide customer base which we are so very thankful for," Putman said. "Aside from local Sidney people and others from all over Cheyenne County, we also see many customers who come from Alliance, Scottsbluff and Chadron, North Platte and Kearney, and also Ft. Morgan and Sterling, and including Kimball and Cheyenne. We also see many people who are passing through on I-80 who stop in to browse and get a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants in town."

An open house will be held today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"This is our annual fall open house here at the store. Stop in for a cup of coffee and enjoy discounts throughout most of the store," Putman said.
