Local artists recognized

Two local residents were recognized with certificates of excellence by the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs, Inc.(ANAC). Their art, along with others who were recognized with awards by the ANAC are now on display at the Sidney Public Library.

The ANAC was created in 1965. The organization held it's an annual convention in McCook in July, providing the opportunity for Nebraska artists to network and choose from several workshops hosted throughout the event.

Awards are given at the convention to top artwork from pieces selected in spring shows from across the state.

The Cheyenne County Art Guild held its annual spring show in April, where more than 20 artists from around the area submitted art for display and judging.

"Winning pieces from the spring art show were submitted to the convention for display and judging." said Cindi Egging. "A well known artist then comes in and chooses the winners. There are about three to four hundred works of art and 25 are chosen to travel the state."

Egging was last year's Art Guild president and one of the local residents recognized at the convention for her pastel piece titled "Afternoon Amble." Tish Treinen was the other artist recognized for her watercolor piece titled "Mighty Aspens." Both ladies will see their art work travel the state.

"The artwork will go around to all of the art guilds and clubs that participated in the convention, the show will travel for a year before ending where the next convention is held," Egging said.

Artwork will be on display at the Sidney Public Library from Sept. 7 to 30.

The Art Guild will also be holding a workshop at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 at the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney.
