Sidney Public School students compete for place in County Spelling Bee

Sidney students participated in a preliminary spelling bee last week, earning the chance to advance to the Cheyenne County Spelling Bee that will be held in January.

Thirty-five fourth, fifth and sixth grade students participated in in the spelling bee, held at the West Elementary auditorium. Out of those 35, seven will continue on to compete against area schools in the Cheyenne County Spelling Bee, set to be held on Jan. 26.

The local spelling bee is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee that is held every year, words each student must spell, comes from Scripps.

West School Counselor Carla Brauer said the students from each of the three grades took a written test to place in the preliminary spelling bee.
