Lady Coyotes overpowered at state

LINCOLN - Going into state D-2 tournament play, the Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes knew they had a big order in front of them, playing the tournament’s top seed, Falls City Sacred Heart, in the first round Thursday morning.

With its offense running cold Potter-Dix couldn’t overcome the Lady Irish, succumbing 45-23.

To slow the Lady Irish down, Potter-Dix had to keep its opponent from getting into the strength of its down-low offensive game.

While Potter-Dix was able to hold a two point lead after one quarter of play, perennial powerhouse Falls City showed why it has placed in the top two seven times over the years.

Falls City used its bread-and-butter offense to take control of the game in the second period, using baseline shooting to its advantage, bolstered by strong offensive rebounding when shots were missed.

The Lady Coyotes, on the other hand, were forced out of their strong offensive game, which many times has included strong input from beyond the three-point arch. That strength failed them Thursday as the Lady Coyotes, despite taking a number of three-point attempts, had just one go in.
