Raiders fare well against tough Dutch Zorn field

GOTHENBURG - Sidney teams faced one of the stiffest competitive fields so far this track season and came out in decent shape, with the boys finishing fourth and the girls sixth at the Dutch Zorn Invite last week.

The boys’ finish came off the strength of its relay teams, with the 4x100 and 4x400 teams finishing first, while the 4x800 meter team reeled in a fourth.

Sidney had one individual champion, Alex Linneman, who lept his way to the long jump crown with a 21-feet, 8-1/2-inch jump.

The Raiders placed in all but a few events, displaying their overall ability to compete.

Kelly Von Seggern led the Lady Raiders with a first place finish in the 100 meter run, while Payton Jung added second place in the high jump.

The Dutch Zorn meet brought the Raiders up against some of the largest schools they have seen so far this year and for Coach John Ganser, coming away with better performances was the pay back.

“We saw a lot of improved times and distances in a lot of circumstances,” Ganser said. “It was a good meet.”
