Sidney business development strong

Several new businesses are arriving in Sidney.

Melissa Norgard, Sidney economic development director, gave a presentation to the city council Tuesday on the city’s latest prospects.

Sandhills Publishing is “up and running,” Norgard said, at 630 Illinois St., the former Cabela’s call center.

Some employees started on April 17, with more starting in May. The company hired 22 employees and will hire 10 to 15 more. Positions include customer service and collection specialists, and are expanding into interactive designers, web specialists and sales staff.

“They’re excited about expanding and growing here,” Norgard said. “It’s a positive thing for the town right now.”

Another planned business, Long Term Care Group, provides “work from home” jobs, Norgard said.

The company does surveys for insurance companies for people who are applying for long term care insurance.

“All you have to do is have a computer and a land line phone,” she said. “The positions are telephonic interviewers and customer service reps.”

The company originally sought 12 to 15 people, Norgard said, and is eager to grow in the area.

Based in Minnesota, the company has no physical office in Sidney.

The company’s interests in Sidney has its ties to Herb Gibson, Lukjan Metal Products LLC midwest regional director.
