Rodney Kent Born - Obituary

Rodney Kent Born of Lewellen, NE passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

A celebration of Rod's life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 12th in the Grace Lutheran Church in Lewellen led by Pastor Jeniffer Brand and Vonnie Brown officiating. There will be a luncheon at the church immediately following. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel to sign Rodney's register book and drop off condolences for the family.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Rodney's care and funeral arrangements.

Rod was born July 13, 1951 in Sidney, to Donald & Velma (Swan) Born. He attended Sidney public schools and was active in Boy Scouts, band, and Cross Country. Rod also worked at his Dad's filling station, Born's Skelly in Sidney. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1969 and attended Kearney State College (now known as University of Nebraska-Kearney).

Rod resided in Sidney from 1971-2000. He raised two daughters with his first wife Roxanne. He worked at Rood's Tire Center and Prestolite Wire and was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Jaycees for many years.

Rod moved to Lewellen, NE in 2000 with his current wife Joy and resided there until his death. He was a huge advocate and servant of Alcoholics Anonymous, and he loved his job driving the Garden County handi-bus. He was dedicated and active at his small town church, Grace Lutheran. Rodney was an avid Husker fan and pet lover.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Velma and sister Jane Born.

Survivors include his wife Joy Speitz, of Lewellen, NE, daughters Marcie (Born) Warner and husband Sean of Arvada, CO, and Lacy (Born) Smay and husband Phil of Sidney, NE, granddaughter Kadyn Warner of Arvada, CO, sister Melanie (Born) Bell and husband Dave of Lincoln, NE, nieces Megan and Erin Bell of Lincoln, NE and numerous extended family members.
