Cross Country boys 8th in State

Brauer places 11th

The Sidney High School Cross Country teams competed in the State meet Friday, Oct. 20.

SHS junior Collin Brauer lead the boys team, placing 11th in a field of 92 runners and 12 teams. He also received a medal for his time.

Junior Lucero, also a junior, placed 21st in the field with a time of 17:35.

"This was the first time on the course (for Lucero) as he was not able to run at the UNK this season due to an injured knee," said coach Donna Wiedeburg. "I know both boys are excited to work next fall and return to the UNK course again."

Also running Friday, senior Kaden Vowers finished 46th with a time of 18:08.7, Caedon Snider, junior, placed 70th in the field with a time of 18:34.3, Jacob Peckham finished 81st with a time of 18:55.9, and Mitchell Porter finished 83rd with a time of 19:00.07. Snider improved his time by nine seconds from earlier this year, Wiedeburg said.

"That was quite an accomplishment on a day with winds of up to 30mph on an already tough course.  All in all, it was a good day full of incredible competition," she said.

In the girls division, Aurora, Omaha Skutt Catholic and Scottsbluff took the top three team positions.

"The girls both ran well.  Taighlor was 51st and Charlie 57th," Wiedeburg said.

This is also the end of the high school cross country career for some of the Sidney team.

"It is always a bittersweet day as that was the last race for the seniors and 2 of the seniors have run with our program for over 6 years - Mitch Porter and Charlie Brockhaus.  I am proud of the kids and so grateful to be a part of this program," she said.
