'Tanner Wintholz Appreciaton Day' Nov. 11 in Chadron

Tanner Wintholz, a 2013 graduate of Sidney High School, is closing out his college football career and the Sidney community is invited to help him celebrate.

He has played noseguard for the Chadron State Eagles for four years.

Sidney High School football coach Chris Koozer has put together a “Tanner Wintholz Appreciation Day” to honor Wintholz.

Winthoz’ accomplishments will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 11 when the Eagles host CSU-Pueblo for their last home game. Kickoff is at noon. Tickets are $10 at the door and there will be designated seating for Sidney fans. Following the game, there will be a reception in the Armstrong Gym building.

He graduates in December with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in coaching.

Prior to enrolled at Chadron State, Tanner played three years of varsity football, wrestled two years varsity and qualified for State his junior and senior year, finishing third his senior year.

Wintholz credits his coaches, his family support and the inspiration of Chloe Johnson, a girl from high school. In a letter, Wintholz describes Johnson as “tuff” in a way many athletes don’t need to consider. He tells of how she had to work incredibly hard every day to walk.

He went on to say when he felt down, didn’t want to play football anymore and he could visualize Chloe encouraging him to keep working.
