Lady Raiders Win 2, Lose 1

The Sidney Raiders are starting off the 2017-2018 basketball season 2-1, having defeating Gering 51-36 and Sterling, Co., 37-26 before losing to Mitchell 53-31.

Thursday's game against Gering started as an even contest with Sidney scoring 12 to Gering's 13. The second quarter was just as defensive, this time with Sidney getting a slight lead to finish the quarter at 7-5 and the half at Sidney 19 and Gering 18.

The third period was a near repeat of the first with Sidney scoring 12 points to Gering's 11.

The fourth quarter was the decision maker of the game with Sidney earning 20 points while keeping Gering to 7.

The Sidney girls then faced the Sterling Lady Tigers on Dec. 1 with Sidney taking an 11-point win 37-26.

Sidney earned eight points in the first quarter to Sterling's four. Both teams collected 10 points in the second for an 18-14 half. Sidney stayed ahead with a 12-7 third quarter and finished the game with a 7-5 fourth quarter.

Mitchell dampened the excitement some for the Lady Raiders. Mitchell lead the game with a 22-point first quarter while keeping Sidney to only three points. Sidney remained in single digits in the second quarter, only earning nine points while Mithell gained another 11.

Mitchell earned 10 in the third and fourth periods while Sidney scored five in the third and 14 in the fourth.

The Lady Raiders host Chase County Friday and Fort Morgan Dec. 15.
