Potter-Dix Girls Best Minatare

The Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes defeated the Minatare Lady Indians Tuesday night in the second round of the D2-12 Subdistrict basketball tournament.

The top-seeded Lady Coyotes were matched against the fourth seeded Lady Indians for the third time this season, with the previous two meetings being won by the Potter-Dix squad. The third meeting followed suit, with the Lady Coyotes prevailing by a final score of 35-14, setting up a meeting with the second-seeded Creek Valley Lady Storm in the finals of the tournament.

Playing in the neutral confines of the Sidney Middles School gym, the game started with Potter-Dix building a quick 9 point lead before Minatare was able to score. The Lady Indians had trouble defending against the height and experience of the Lady Coyotes, who were able to get the ball inside consistently and score, and had trouble handling the ball as the Lady Coyotes were effective stealing the ball and causing Minatare turnovers.

By the end of the first period, Potter-Dix had opened an 11-2 lead, but the second period marked a drastic turnaround, with both teams struggling to hang on to the ball, much less score. The Lady Coyotes scored five point to the Lady Indians three, giving them a 16-5 advantage at halftime.

The second half started with a third quarter that had Minatare playing better defense while the Lady Coyotes struggled to put away the Lady Indians. Each team tallied seven points in the period, giving hope for Minatare to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter. But Potter-Dix started firing again on all cylinders, and put up twelve points to Minatare's two, ending the game with a 35-14 victory. With the win, the Lady Coyotes advanced to the finals on Thursday.

Potter-Dix senior Payge Hoffman led the scoring with 10 points, and senior Trinity Langley pulled down 14 rebounds on the night.
