SPD Continues Counterfeit Money Investigation

Sidney Police Department is continuing its investigation following the discovery of counterfeit bills in a Sidney aprtment last week.

Sidney Police Chief Joe Aikens said the investigation uncovered information that bills matching those found were passed in Kimball. SPD is working with the Nebraska State Patrol to learn more about the incidents in Kimball.

Two people were arrested when the police department’s WING Task Force officer executed a search warrant of a vehicle. According to arrest affidavits, during that search officers found a number of $1 bills that were thicker than normal bills and has lines on them from being printed. Officers reported a number of the bills had matching serial numbers. In eight bills, there were three different serial numbers that matched at least one other bill.

Police, along with Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, also searched an apartment in the 2400 block of 11th Ave., where they discovered additional $1 bills with matching serial numbers, including two boxes of business paper that contained sheets of printed money. Also found were printers believed to have been used in the operation.

Christopher Humphries, 32, and Jaclyn Greer-Humphries, 31, were both arrested for first degree forgery and possession of criminal devices. During the arrest, Christopher Humphries threatened law enforcement officers, adding the charge of making terroristic threats against an officer.
