Ronald L.Howerter

Ronald L. Howerter, 85 of Elm Creek passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Memorial services were held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Elm Creek First Chirstian Church. Inurnment followed at Elm Creek Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Elm Creek American Legion in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Corps Honors Team.

Ron was born April 21, 1938 near Lodgepole, NE to Thomas and Carol (Millet) Howerter. He was raised near Sidney, NE and received his education from Sidney High School, graduating with the class of 1955. Later that year, Ron was united in marriage to Marilyn Wilson. To this union four children were blessed. Ron proudly served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1959. Ron served as hospital administrator and lab and x-ray technician in Chappell, NE for many years. He later worked as a lab and x-ray technician in Oshkosh, NE. On November 21, 1987, Ron was united in marriage to Sandy McKeeman in McCook, NE. Ron and Sandy moved to Kearney where he worked as an account manager and later founded and managed equipment sales at Cash-Wa, retiring after 37 years with the company.

Ron enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and tending to his lawn. He will be remembered for his ability to tell a story and for being a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was a member of the Elm Creek First Christian Church. Ron was also a past member of the Lions Club and the Garden County School Board.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandy Howerter of Elm Creek; son, Dr. Mark (Deanna) Howerter of Columbus; daughters, Amy (Craig) Rathjen of Hickman and Dianne (Scott) Howbert of Harker Heights, TX; step children, Todd (Shar) McKeeman of Maxwell, NE, Tammy Unger and special friend Paul Blume of Indianola and Tara (Sean) Fries of Indianola; 26 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; as well as many extended family and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; son, Corey Lee Howerter; brother Tom Howerter; and sister Nancy Pfanstiel.
