Letter to the Editor

Dear Sun-Telegraph,

RE: “Delta Dawn When the Light Comes On: Week One” by Ivy Joy Johnson, Jan. 4, 2024

I have no disagreements with the lovely article referenced above, but it missed an opportunity to provide guidance on how to, "be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine ..." (Eph. 4:14). The guardian source of preventing apostasy is identified in verses Eph. 4:11-13, which is a church led by Jesus Christ through apostles and prophets (see verse 11). Acts chapter 1 and other Biblical references demonstrate that the Lord always intended to guide His church through living apostles and prophets. Verse 13 informs us how long apostles and prophets are needed, "Till we all come in the unity of the faith ...".

It will be noted that the proliferation of different Christian denominations did not start until after the apostles in the primitive church were dead (Acts 20:29-30). There are 100's, if not 1,000's, of different denominations today and disunity in the faith continues. If we include non-Christian religions, the abyss in faiths are greater still. Hence, any church that is not led by living apostles and prophets cannot prevent apostasy and therefore, cannot guide congregations toward eternal life. In summary, living apostles and prophets are still needed and without them there will never be unity in the faith.

"Let the light come on." Your readers are invited to ask God in sincere prayer if He has a true church on earth (which may or may not be the one they are currently affiliated with) and if He does, how to find it. Your readers are also invited to research churches that have living apostles and prophets; to investigate their doctrines; and become members of a church with congregations that are being perfected in Jesus Christ (Eph. 4:12).

Sincerely submitted,

Bryan Weight
