Just For Kix Brings Vegas Shine to Sidney

Area girls ages 2-17 delight the crowd on Saturday

Hot off the heels of an uber-successful Together We Dance competition in Grand Island, Just For Kix brought Vegas razzle-dazzle to the Sidney Middle School gymnasium Sunday, March 24 for their Spring recital. With ten 1st place, four 2nd place, two 3rd place and ALL teams with either a platinum or high gold ranking, JFK Sidney rocked the TWD house March 16.

Working with JFK for the past 20 years, Donna Brown Fort has accomplished a lasting impact in Sidney. With 16 years under her belt in Cheyenne County, Fort has made quite the positive impression. "One thing I love about directing JFK is the combination of my love for dance, and my love for instructing. With a degree in education, it's rewarding to do the two things I love most – teach children, and dancing while doing it," Fort had to say. "So many fabulous things happen from kids wanting to perform their best, encouraging them to participate and just START. We want to work and accept that challenge together, watching a child recognize and see their potential is the biggest takeaway."

The JFK Spring Show began with its youngest dancers performing for the first show and the older dancers ending the day as the grand finale; the colorful glittering costumes, fun Vegas themed décor, exclamations and cheers from the stands, fresh popcorn and inviting florals served as a nice backdrop to a day filled of community. As each number ended and each dancer returned to their family for the next quick change, it was evident to see the camaraderie and friendship among each individual; JFK serves as a team even off stage.

With JFK's first trip to Nationals, in April, on the horizon, there is much to look forward to, "we have a group of over 50 (students, families and fans) planning to attend Nationals with us in Minnesota," Fort remarked, "they're the reason we're going. With our dancers and their families encouraging us to give it a go, we set the plan into motion after our season began in August. We will be competing every day of the competition Wednesday-Saturday and returning that Sunday. We're expecting it to be much different than what we're used to in Grand Island, and we're excited for the opportunity to showcase our Sidney JFK."

Just For Kix will be taking 11 competitive dancers to the Nationals event in Rochester, Minnesota April 24-28, if interested in watching JFK's journey next month updates will be regularly added to their Facebook page.
