Warriors, Coyotes Compete at Bayard C-D Invitational

BAYARD--On Thursday, March 28, the Leyton Warrior and Potter-Dix Coyote Track & Field teams traveled to Bayard for the annual Bayard C-D Invitational track meet. The weather was just about perfect for competition, with warm, sunny skies and very little breeze. All of the top C and D teams from western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming competed, and the Coyotes and Warriors had a few outstanding performances during the day.

The Warriors boys' team ended up in twelfth place and the girls' squad finished third, while the Coyotes boys finished thirteenth and the girls did not register a score.

For the Lady Warriors, junior Zaili Benish led the way with a win in the 300 Meter Hurdles, a second place finish in the 100 Meter Hurdles and was part of the winning 4X100 Meter Relay team. Junior Riley Jones won the High Jump for Leyton, and junior Shawnee Gamble placed second in the 400 Meters. Jones and Gambel were also part of the winning 4X100 Meter Relay team.

The Potter-Dix girls, with a small and inexperienced squad of athletes, did not place in any event and scored no points in the meet.

The Leyton boys were led by a fourth place finish in the 110 Meter Hurdles and ninth place finish in Triple Jump by senior Kaleb Borges, and an eight place finish in the 1600 Meters by sophomore Justin Tomberg-Wright. The Potter-Dix boys were led by a sixth place finish in Shot Put and tenth place finish in Discus by junior Dawsen Monheiser and an eleventh place finish in High Jump by Landon Gasseling. On Tuesday, April 2, Leyton, Potter-Dix and Peetz were all scheduled to compete at the Tri-State Meet hosted by Creek Valley in Chappell.
