Creek Valley Hosts Annual Twilight Track and Field Meet

CHAPPELL--Creek Valley High School hosted its annual Twilight Track & Field Meet on Tuesday, April 9, and although a few less teams participated, the meet ran smoothly and did not continue after 9 p.m. as it has in previous years. Creek Valley and Potter-Dix were the schools in our area that competed, and for the boys' teams the Storm placed ninth out of ten teams with seven points and the Potter-Dix Coyotes placed seventh with 52.5 points scored. For the girls, the Lady Storm tied for fourth with Haxtun with 30 points, and the Lady Coyotes placed seventh with 25 points. The top three teams for the boys were Garden County with 126 points, Ogallala with 79 points and South Platte with 76 points. For the girls, the top three were Wallace with 205 points, Arthur County with 63 points and South Platte with 54 points.

For the Creek Valley boys, top performances were had by freshman Luke Fletcher with a sixth place finish in the 100 Meters, a third place finish in the High Jump, and a seventh place finish in the Long Jump. Sophomore Hunter Isenbart had a 16th place finish in the 100 Meters, a 17th place finish in the 200 Meters and a 12th place finish in Long Jump. Sophomore Alvin Russell had a 15th place finish in the 200 Meters and a 10th place finish in the 400 Meters.

For the Potter-Dix boys, junior Dawsen Monheiser won the Shot Put, placed eighth in Discus and was part of the second place 4x100 Meter Relay team. Senior Jaxen Buettenback had a ninth place finish in the 100 Meters, a fourth place finish in Shot Put, and was part of the second place 4x100 Meter Relay team. Sophomore Kolby Labeau placed 15th in the 100 Meters, a 10th place finish in the Shot Put and a sixth place finish in Discus. Sophomore Landon Gasseling won the Triple Jump, placed second in the High Jump, placed sixth in the 200 Meters and was part of the second place 4x100 Meter Relay team.

For the Creek Valley girls, senior Samantha Marin won the 400 Meters and placed second in the 3200 Meters, junior Ava Fraass placed 11th in the 100 Meters and 12th in Shot Put and Discus. Junior Karsyn Burgman placed fourth in the High Jump and 13th in the 100 Meters, senior Anna Speirs placed third in the 1600 meters and fifth in the 200 Meters. Freshman Catherin Tilghman placed ninth in Shot Put and Discus, and sophomore Jesslynn Bravo placed 10th in the 200 Meters.

For the Potter-Dix girls, sophomore Kenzie Shoemaker placed second in Shot Put and fourth in Discus and 14th in the 100 meters, freshman Scarlette Taylor placed 10th in the 100 Meters and seventh in the 200 Meters, and senior Hannah Kielian placed ninth in the 200 Meters, sixth in the 400 Meters and eighth in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Freshman Skyler LaBeau placed fourth in the 100 and 300 Meter Hurdles and sixth in Long Jump, and sophomore Cayli Spencer placed fifth in the 3200 Meters and seventh in the 1600 Meters. Senior Jacina Wilbur placed sixth in Shot Put.

Creek Valley next competes at the Paxton Invite on Thursday, April 18 and the Potter-Dix squad will travel to Wyoming to compete in the Kendra Roeder Invite in Pine Bluffs on April 19.
