Showdown At The Holiday Inn By Jessica Kaiser jkaiser@suntelegraph.com SIDNEY - America’s largest country music talent search came to the Holiday Inn on Saturday as 12 area hopefuls sang for judges, each vying for the title of winner of the KSID Colgate Country Showdown. Sixteen year-old JaNae Wright of Chappell won the coveted title with her renditions of Carrie Underwood’s “Don’t Forget To Remember Me” and Taylor Swift’s “Our Song.” “I practiced everyday at my church with the microphone,” she said. “I am way excited.” Placing second was Jaclyn Reeder of Hiawatha, Kan., and third place went to Brittany Large of Dalton. Each participant was judged on a combination of musical talent, stage presence, charisma, musicianship and originality. Other contestants were Cory Brown, Chris Gutierrez, Adam Haupt and Michael Ross of Sidney, Johnny Ray of Potter, Dusk Erb of LaVista, Tag From of Thedford, Zaid Lamas of Bridgeport, and Jena Sierks of Sutherland. “All contestants sang their first song and after the intermission five were chosen to compete in the finals,” Wright said. Judges were Blake Thompson, Laura Rowan and Rhonda Rummel. Wright will advance to the state contest, competing for $1,000 and the opportunity to perform at one of five regional competitions in the fall. The Colgate Country Showdown is in its 27th year and has been actively launching careers of promising country music talent in America. This program awards as much as $200,000 in cash prizes to thousands of contestants each year.
