Local Pool Teams To Advance To APA Western Nebraska Championships For The Sun-Telegraph Sidney - Several local pool players were awarded cash and trophies recently for winning the summer session of the American Poolplayers Association (APA) 8-Ball and 9-Ball Pool Leagues. In the Tuesday 8-Ball League, Junkyard Dogs from Junkyard Bar in Lodgepole was awarded $340 for finishing in first place at the end of regular session play, Naughty Pines from Jimmy’s in Sidney took $265 for second place and Cornhusker Shooters from Silver Dollar in Sidney earned $145 for their third place finish. In the finals of the playoffs, the Naughty Pines team defeated Junkyard Dogs to take the summer session championship trophies. Naughty Pines will now advance to the $40,000 Western Nebraska APA Team Championships in June to compete for a trip to the $1 million APA National Championships in Las Vegas which includes a generous travel allowance, paid entry fee, guaranteed $350 last place prize money and paid lodging at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, site of the APA National Championships. League MVP awards went to Alicia Ginther, Mike From and Kay Ford. Top Gun awards went to Alicia Ginther and Dean Sterling. The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Double Barrel Shooters from Silver Dollar in Sidney. Team members of Double Barrel Shooters include Brant Hajek, James Cumbie, Stephanie Hajek, Rick Frerichs, Cathy Hecker, Tom Bergner, Steve Nettles and Marcus Cumbie. In the Sunday 9-Ball League, Handy Shooters from Jimmy’s in Sidney was awarded $180 for finishing in first place at the end of regular session play while Silver Dollar II in Sidney earned $150 for their second place finish. In the finals of the playoffs, Handy Shooters defeated Drama Inc. from Silver Dollar to take the Summer Session Championship trophies. The APA Pool Leagues offer the casual pool player an opportunity to enjoy some fun and friendly competition with friends, family and co-workers and is open to players of all abilities, men and women, who are at least 18 years old.
