Keep All Of Sidney Beautiful

Letter To The Editor

Published: Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Editor,
I was recently scanning through the local paper and saw a picture of a town council member accepting an award from the “Keep Sidney Beautiful Committee!” After 20 years of residence here, I still don’t know what those words mean! I’ve often wondered if these people have ever seen “My” neighborhood. Houses that have burned down and been abandoned, fences that have been blown down from the wind, furniture sitting out in their yards, numerous vehicles in their yards, pot holes that you could sleep in, stray cats everywhere and so on! My personal business has taken me to every town in the State of Nebraska, and I have never seen a town yet that would allow such filth.

I have had a lot of friends come to see me from all over the country, they always remark on how disgusting it looks around here. When you first drive into town coming from the west, you are greeted with what you see on Illinois St. “Lets face it, that’s not beautiful.” I remember a town council meeting a few years ago, when they said you can’t have a vehicle on your property that wasn’t legally tagged and plated and running.  I see vehicles all over town that don’t run!

But getting back to my neighborhood (Indian Hills), it has become a real “Eye Sore”, so please, “Keep Sidney Beautiful Committee,” Help us wherever you are!

Mike Hebert,
Sidney
