Are You A Cantankerous Old Crony?

Letter To The Editor

Published: Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Editor,

You know, I am really going to miss the editor (who says he isn’t) of The Sidney Citizen. After reading his latest edition Feb. 11, I am 100 percent sure he will be leaving us soon to return to the institution he was recently released from. The guy is really a nutcase, he shoots from the hip and publishes hearsay and half false accusations just to raise suspicion  instead of going to the city for facts. No wonder he won’t sign this thing. Smells like someone’s campaign ploy to me.

I suppose it is human nature to want to strike out and cast blame at someone when the economy goes to hell. In this case it is The Sidney Citizen and three council members trying to use this to disband the City Manager/Economic Development Director position along with the idiotic excuses this position holds too much power, whatever that means. I’m glad someone around here has some positive power to reach out and get things done for the city. The negative power displayed by the Big 3 on the council is only going to return us back to the Stone-age. I do appreciate the help Bob and Marvin have given us on the Boot Hill Committee and some other projects around town, but what they and the mayor are trying to pull off is just plain crazy and will only serve to enlarge their already over-inflated egos.

It sure was a good economic run, there everyone was content and making money here in Sidney the last several years under City Manager/Economic Development Director Gary Person’s leadership, and wanting to blame him for the recent downturn is a lot like the Democrats blaming Bush for everything from Hurricane Katrina to the Haitian earthquake. Rauner’s recent audit reports that the City of Sidney’s financial status is in good shape shouldn’t fall on deaf ears.

I did find it quite awakening though, that over the last year three council meetings at least 90 percent of Sidney was represented by doctors, lawyers, bankers, businessmen, ex-council members and citizens to try to restore some sanity back up there and they were greeted by arrogance and conceit (and exaggerated opinion of oneself) from the Big 3 council members and called Gary’s mob of cantankerous old cronies by The Sidney Citizen’s editor whom they seem to support. And this so-called mob was the people who helped elect them! Something is very wrong here folks, very very wrong! I think the councilman’s code of conduct got flushed.

Mike Hartzler,
Sidney
