| SIDNEY – Cheyenne County native Wendall Gaston has opted to run for a third term on Sidney’s City Council. Safeway’s pharmacy manager and former mayor says he brings management skills learned from a lifetime as a local businessman. “The main reason for running is to use my management skills that I have learned from being in business and leading several local organizations to help lead the city into the future,” Gaston said. “I think it is very important to ask as many questions as possible so that I can make good decisions.” Gaston owns a speaking and business training company while maintaining his pharmacy manager position at Safeway. At one time, Gaston owned and operated Gaston Pharmacy in downtown Sidney, a business that lasted 23 years. Gaston was raised in Potter, where he graduated from high school. Furthering his education, Gaston graduated from the University of Nebraska with an MBA in business. He later graduated from the University of Kansas with a doctorate degree in pharmacy. Although Gaston has an extensive business background, including operating a JC Penney catalog outlet, he also has held numerous positions in various organizations. A past president of the Sidney Jaycees, Sidney Kiwanis Club and Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce, Gaston has also served on the Memorial Health Care Foundation Board and is a member of the Sidney Rotary Club. Representing the profession of pharmacy, Gaston also has served on many state and national boards. Gaston and his wife, Deanna, have three children, Cora, Jennie and Tamlyn. Gaston’s seat on the council is one of three up for election this year. Ten candidates made the filing deadlines and serve as his competition. Joining him in the incumbent category are fellow councilmen Dalan Hiett and Marvin Filsinger. Challengers include Roger Gallaway, Jimmie Hansel, Zane Hall, Tracy Hruza, Tim Hackleman, Tamara Nelsen and Mark Nienhueser. Click Here To See More Stories Like This |
