| GERING – Local organizations who provide shelter and relief services have an opportunity to apply for a portion of more than $32,000 in federal funding recently awarded to the Panhandle region. The funds were awarded through the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program and are being administered locally by the Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska. “We work in conjunction with various agencies and organizations to make sure that these funds get to families that need them,” said Carmen Trevino, assistant director of family and community services for CAPWN. Trevino said the funds have been awarded to the area for the past 27 years. She added that the funds are generally used for such items as emergency rent, utilities or possibly mortgages. The CAPWN board is accepting applications from organizations and agencies in Cheyenne, Banner, Deuel, Garden, Kimball and Morill counties. The board will determine how the funds are distributed. The deadline for application is Friday, June 4. To be eligible for application, organizations must be private, voluntary non-profits or units of government, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated capacity to deliver emergency food and or shelter programs, and if they are a private voluntary organization, they must a have a voluntary board. Organizations interested in applying can contact Roy Lawton at 308-635-3089 for an application. Click Here To See More Stories Like This |
