  • Sidney fends off hot-shooting Bearcats

    Stephen McKay|Feb 3, 2014

Even when the Red Raiders held a convincing 48-30 lead midway through the third quarter over the dangerous Scottsbluff Bearcats, it didn't seem possible the hosts could be taken that easily. As it turns out they couldn't be. Scottsbluff cranked up the heat in the second half, forcing the the Raiders into a donnybrook with their Class B6 rivals. Sidney managed to hold on for a hard fought 66-62 win in Scottsbluff on Saturday night. Sidney advanced their record to 13-4, which includes wins in...

  • Raiders hold edge in defensive struggle

    Dave Faries|Feb 3, 2014

There was little reason to peek at the scoreboard on Saturday. Points, after all, were hard to come by in Sidney's 27-16 win over visiting Hershey. The Raiders held Hershey to a mere two points in the first period. The Panthers returned the favor in the second. And until the game's waning moments, it was doubtful either team would break the 20 point mark. "It was a defensive battle, that's for sure," said Katelin Cole. Sidney's Abbi Porter, Cody Rowley and Savanna Rosenbaum clogged the low post...

    Stephen McKay|Feb 3, 2014

Chadron invaded the Cabela’s Athletic Facility and came away with a 62-53 win over the Raiders Friday night. Despite Sarah Mahr’s outstanding night, which included 23 points, the Cardinals were led by a pair of 6-1 twin sisters. Ashlea and Bailea Kerr provided matchup difficulties for Sidney all night, as Ashlea scored 17 points while Bailea dropped in 11 more. But another senior, Peyton Hinn, proved the biggest challenge for the Raiders as she drove in 24 points. After a short jumper by the Raiders’ Cody Rowley early in the first quart...

  • Raiders in run away win over Chadron

    Stephen McKay|Feb 3, 2014

It took just 18 seconds for Paxton Ehler to put the Red Raiders on the path to victory. His three pointer shortly after tip off was the start of a 46-33 non-league win over the Chadron Cardinals at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility Friday night. Though Ehler’s opening three pointer was soon answered with an equalizer by Vonsinh Sayaloune, Sidney took the lead for good moments later, when Rosenbaum dropped in a free throw. The Raiders never looked back. In the final two minutes Ehler hit another three and a foul shot for a 13-6 lead after one quart...
