The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet Friday. The banquet was held at the Sidney Elks Lodge, and various awards were given to community members. Sidney Regional Medical Center recently received recognition for its work to combat diabetes. The American Diabetes Association awarded SRMC with the prestigious Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education program. Nebraska's 150th anniversary is just a year away, and a trio of groups is working to celebrate the hallmark with a display of photographs from throughout the state. Peetz 7th grader Owen Kurz, right, won the Northeast Colorado Regional Spelling Bee in Brush, Colo., on Feb. 4. Kurz, the son of Brian and Sheri Kurz of Sidney, also tied for the best score spelling 27 of 30 words correctly in the regional written qualifier test. As I mentioned in previous articles we view water conservation on our farm as a systems approach to saving water. Thus far I have talked about utilizing no-till crop production techniques to minimize soil disturbance and adopting a dynamic crop rotation.
