    Students from West and North elementary schools in Sidney participated in a spelling bee on Wednesday. Sixth-grader Rishi Krishna won the event.     Twenty-six fatalities were recorded on Nebraska roadways in November, bringing the year-to-date death toll to 219. According to data released by the Nebraska Department of Roads, fatalities have increased 14 percent over the previous four-year average.     Many local houses are lit up to ring in Christmas, however one Sidney residence in particular grabbed the attention of judges during the annual Sidney House Lighting Contest. The Cheyenne County Visitors Committee has been hosting the contest for more than a decade to help promote Christmas spirit within the community.     Erma C. Doggett, 86 of Anchorage, AK and former Cheyenne County resident, passed away at her home on Friday, Dec. 11. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.     The following people appeared in Cheyenne County Court on Monday, Dec. 14, before the Honorable Randin Roland: Joshua Manchester, 34, of Sidney, appeared for presentment on a two-count charge of failure to abide by the Sex Offender Registration Act, which are both Class IV felonies. A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 29. Justina Stevens, 18, of Sidney, appeared for entry of plea on a charge of procuring alcohol for a minor, which is a Class I misdemeanor.  She pleaded not guilty.     The Peetz girls’ basketball team took a loss on Wednesday night as Haxtun beat up on the Lady Bulldogs, 62-17, in Haxtun.
