  • Lawyer for Jodi Arias makes closing arguments

    Associated Press|May 3, 2013

PHOENIX (AP) — A lawyer for Jodi Arias began his closing argument Friday by imploring jurors to take an impartial view of the case and his client — even if they don’t like her. Arias smiled broadly when defense lawyer Kirk Nurmi told the jury: “It’s not about whether or not you like Jodi Arias. Nine days out of 10, I don’t like Jodi Arias. ... But that doesn’t matter.” Arias said she killed Travis Alexander in self-defense, but prosecutors say it was an act of first-degree murder that cou...

  • Miller forges ahead without pass-rushing partner

    Associated Press|May 3, 2013

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Von Miller has a couple of new pass-rushing partners. What he really needs with Elvis Dumervil bolting to Baltimore is a new nickname. Upon joining the Denver Broncos in 2011, Miller proclaimed that Dumervil was “Batman,” and that made him “Robin.” But with Miller piling up 30 sacks over the last two seasons to Dumervil’s 201⁄2, “Doom & Gloom” became a more fitting moniker. Dumervil signed with the Ravens as a free agent in March after a fax fiasco in Denver during a contract renegotiation, so Miller finds himself lea...

  • Syria

    May 3, 2013

Editor, President Obama drew a line, with very little thought what would happen if the government in Syria ignored him. We, the people of the United States, don’t need to become involved anymore than we already are in the Middle East. We shouldn’t just walk but run as fast as we can to get out and let all the different sect’s of Islam settle their differences. It appears everyone in Washington DC is experiencing a loss of memory. Isn’t this how we became involved in Vietnam? We sent supplies, then advisor and before the public realized what was...

  • Our view

    Sun-Telegraph|May 3, 2013

Maybe it just appears as though politicians and pundits are more prone to fabrication and logical flaws these days. The 24-hour news cycle, the advent of online programming and the election of those appealing to narrow electorates allow for such abuses, after all. But neither party benefits from misstatements, selective data or outright abandonment of fact. On the house floor, Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-Tex.) charged during a diatribe against revisions to FBI intelligence terminology in training manuals under the Obama administration that “they can...
