    The Cheyenne County Attorney’s Office has a new deputy attorney. Justin R. Huber, of Sidney, began his tenure earlier this week. On Tuesday, Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub said he is looking forward to working with Huber. “He started working for Matzke & Mattoon here in town in August 2013,” Schaub said during a phone interview from Kearney, where he and Huber were attending training at a Nebraska County Attorney’s Association seminar.   • Year brings increased enrollment, student success at Sidney schools

    Classes at schools throughout Sidney ended for the academic year on Wednesday, and students will now be on summer break until mid-August.     As the school year comes to an end, the graduating seniors aren't the only ones who are starting a new chapter outside of Sidney High School. Sidney High School's Jane Holechek, Tim Smith, Brent Joyce and Burl Janzen will be retiring after their more than 160 years of teaching experience.   • City offices closed for Memorial Day

    The City of Sidney will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day. All city departments will be closed including the landfill and the library. The Dial-a-ride bus and Stage Line bus will not be running. The Solid Waste Department will be collecting Monday’s trash on Tuesday and Tuesday’s trash on Wednesday. The Sidney Sun-Telegraph offices will also be closed on Monday and no edition will be printed that day. The newspaper offices will reopen Tuesday at 8 a.m.... Full story

    Lester F. Johnson, formerly of Potter, passed away at his home in Phoenix, after a well fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease on April 10, 2015. Cremation has been held. Military graveside Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 29, at the Potter Cemetery at 11 a.m. Pastor Betsy Galloway-Carew will be officiating along with representatives from the US Air Force providing the Military portion of the service.     Court Appointed Special Advocates was the recipient of the March "Dress Down Day" funds. Cheyenne County CASA is a private, nonprofit volunteer organization that assist abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system.     OMAHA, Neb. – The 2015 NSAA State Track & Field Championships are set to begin at Burke Stadium in Omaha this weekend.
