    The Sidney High School football team opens the 2014 season today at Weymouth Field, hosting Chadron at 7 p.m. The Red Raiders will be looking to return to the state playoffs for the second consecutive year under head coach Todd Ekart. Prior to tonight's game, there will be a free-will tailgate BBQ at 6 p.m. with proceeds benefitting the local Sidney Teammates chapter.     The flow of marijuana out of Colorado and into Nebraska is putting a strain on law enforcement and county attorneys in bordering communities. There were more than 60 marijuana-related arrests in Cheyenne County in 2013. Officials say this number has at least doubled already in 2014. As of May, there had already been 37 arrests related to possession of marijuana in Deuel County.   • Fort Sidney Road facing lane closures

    Construction as part of the Fort Sidney Road improvement project is going to make traveling that route a little slower in the next two months. Beginning Tuesday, the existing asphalt will be removed and replaced with a new surface from Highway 30 to 11th Avenue. There will be some additional replacement of the roadway at the intersections of Fort Sidney Road with College, Deaver and Parkland drives.     According to the definitive history of "The American Fur Trade of the Far West," written by Hiram Martin Chittenden and published by New York publishers in 1902, Major Alexander Culbertson died Aug. 27, 1879, and was buried in Orleans, Mo.   • Cabela's to open store in Ohio

    Cabela’s Inc. plans to open an 82,000-square-foot store in West Chester, Ohio, serving the greater Cincinnati area. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall and Cabela’s expects to open the store in fall 2015. It will be Cabela’s second location in Ohio, joining the Columbus store that opened in March 2013.
