    Dr. Bradley Hoppens and his daughter, Dr. Mary Beth Meier, are joining forces in their quest to help people attain beautiful smiles. Meier recently joined her father's orthodontics practice and they intend to be together for the long haul. Hoppens began his practice in 1985, and has offices in Ogallala, McCook and North Platte, which Hoppens and Meier visit every week.     The co-owner of a Sidney motel is being held on a $1 million bond and faces charges that include kidnapping, domestic assault and drug and gun possession. Sidney resident Jason Assad, 35, co-owns the El Palomino Motel at 2220 Illinois St., Sidney. The arrest stems from an alleged altercation at the property in the morning hours of Sept. 14.     A driver is in custody after allegedly trying to transport cocaine from Colorado into Nebraska – in the gas tank door of his car. Dennis Chad Smartt-Mead, 23 of North Platte, was booked on charges of possession of cocaine and taken to the Cheyenne County Jail. The district has chosen to honor former customers and friends living in area nursing homes and assisted living centers with ice cream socials.   • 36 pounds of marijuana seized in traffic stop

    NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – A traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Lincoln County led to the seizure of nearly 36 pounds of marijuana and two arrests. On Monday at just before 1:30 p.m., a trooper stopped an eastbound 2014 Nissan Maxima for Driving Left of Center and Failing to Signal on I-80 near the Hershey exit in Lincoln County. During contact with the driver the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana.     The Sidney High cross country teams came close to sweeping three consecutive meets on Monday in Kearney. The boys placed second overall with a score of 90, while the girls took first with an impressive score of 38. Out of a field of 208 male runners, senior Jachob Wiedeburg came in with a time of 18:15, good for 14th place overall which led the Sidney boys.
